This Catalogue lists poster stamps and similar Cinderella stamps printed in Czech or German languages and published in the Czech Kingdom or later in the Czechoslovak Republic, as well as closely related foreign editions. Part I deals with stamps of Bohemia, that is of the Czech Kingdom. The distinction is important, as there were three 'lands', Bohemia, Moravia and Silesia (called 'Austrian-Silesia' during our period), historically coming under St Wenceslaus crown and called as the Czech Kingdom. The political-social setting, being an all important factor, should never be overlooked with regard to Czech history, which has been extremely complex over the last 150 years. We have, to our regret, no space to provide in depth information and thus only outlines are given.
The said tenitories formed pan of the Hapsburg Empire after the Czechs were defeated in 1628. Then from 1867 until October 1918, they belonged to the Austro-Hungarian Monarchy. Between October 1918 and March 1939 they formed pan of the Czechoslovak Republic. The time span we are discussing in our annotated catalogue is about half a century, i.e. from the beginning of Cinderella publishing to 1939 (from the end of 19th Century to the beginning of WWII), with the dividing line between the two pans at 1918. For practical reasons, as much as for the sake of the English reader, the term "Bohemia" is generally used in the catalogue and its title as a term equivalent to the Czech Kingdom.
