With 538 colour illustrations, this is the most comprehensive book yet to be published on Western Australian wildflowers. Of the 520 plants shown, 432 are restricted to this State.
The book covers the area from Port Hedland in the North to the South Coast, and inland to the desert fringes. The plants are arranged according to the region in which they most commonly occur, the 16 regions being grouped into the South-West and North-West Divisions. A large plate showing a typical habitat introduces each region.
A caption with each plate gives common and scientific names, flowering time, and notes on the characteristics of the plant and its distribution.
The general text describes the habitats and plants of each region.
The book contains a representative selection of the plants in those areas of Western Australia most visited by travellers. The wildflowers of the State, especially the South-West, arc world-famous, and many of those shown here can be seen by the wayside, though a number have never before been illustrated. The sections on the North-West will be especially useful, as this area has received little attention in other wildflower books.
